Welcome

Welcome to the Sacred Harp singing community in Switzerland. We gather infrequently to sing from shapenote tunebooks like the Sacred Harp or The Shenandoah Harmony; using the traditional four-shape notation system.

Travel & Accommodation:

Train: Zurich’s main station (Zürich HB) is well connected to major cities in Switzerland and neighboring countries.

Plane: Zurich Airport (ZRH) is Switzerland’s main international airport. The city center (Zürich HB) can be reached directly from the airport by train in about 10–15 minutes, with frequent departures.
Note: if you book flights early enough, they should be fairly affordable. If you find cheaper tickets to e.g. Basel or Geneva, it's often not worth it because the trains from there to Zurich will be very expensive and cancel out any potential savings.

Public Transport:
Zürich's main transport attraction are its trams that connect the city centre and outer neighbourhoods, however there are also numerous buses and S-bahn trains stopping at multiple train stations within the city.
Ticket prices depend on a zonal fare system and are irrespective of mode of transport, i.e taking a 10-min S-Bahn to the airport will cost the same amount as taking the (much slower) tram.
Zone 110 covers the greater Zürich city area (but not the airport!) and a 24-hour ticket for zone 110 costs CHF 9.40 (ca. € 10.30, £ 8.90, $ 11.90).
The closest station to our venue is the Stettbach train/tram station, which is just within zone 110, and can be reached from Zürich main station by tram nr. 7 and S-bahn nr. 3, 9, 11 and 12.

Accommodation:
Switzerland is expensive. However, Zürich offers budget accommodation such as youth hostels, traditional guesthouses (often with shared bathroom) or private stays with B&B / AirBnB hosts.
Note: As - The price for a room for 1ppn is often the same as that for a double room / 2ppn; so teaming up might be worth it.
The city's transport network is extensive and fairly efficient, therefore most hostels & guesthouses listed below are still within easy reach of the city centre.

Some budget-friendly options in Zürich:
• Youth Hostel (Wollishofen)
• Meininger Hotel (Wollishofen)
• Friendly Hostel Zürich (City Centre)
• Gasthaus zum Guten Glück
• Gasthaus Für Dich
• B&B Zoo Caffè & Ristorante
• Gasthaus Kafi Schnapps
• Alexander Guesthouse
• Viadukt Apartments
